The documentation conserved at the Imola archival section was produced or acquired by the government offices of the city and its former territory, apart from the municipal historical archives conserved at the local municipal library, which also houses several important archives of ancient nobles families, the archives of the local hospitals and the most recent part of the mandated notarial archives, whose acts are transferred to the archives only 100 years after their redaction, in accordance with existing Italian legislation.
The Imola section has a total of 22,666 archival units, which extend from the 14th to the 20th centuries.
A first summary description of the fonds conserved at the Imola section of the State Archives can be found under the heading of “Sezione di Archivio di Stato di Imola” in the online Guida generale degli Archivi di Stato italiani.
