The school of archival science, palaeography and diplomatics of the State Archives of Bologna was founded in 1890 and is one of the seventeen schools currently active in the Italian State Archives network.
Initially designed for training the scientific staff of archival administration, although open at the same time to others, today the archival schools are addressed to those who wish to acquire the preparation necessary to perform activities in the archival field, in both the public and private sectors.
From this perspective, the archival school of the State Archives of Bologna provides knowledge and skills both in the preservation of historical archives and in the management of current archives.
The two-year course of studies consists of both of lectures on theory and practical exercises. At the end of the second year, after passage of a final exam, the school issues a diploma in archival science, palaeography and diplomatics.
