The Institute

The Imola Section of the State Archives conserves documentary material distinct from that of Bologna, because the historical events of the city have been separate from those of Bologna for a long time.

Archival Fonds

The documentation conserved at the Imola archival section was produced or acquired by the government offices of the city and its former territory, apart from the municipal historical archives conserved at the local municipal library, which also houses several important archives of ancient nobles families, the archives of the local hospitals and the most recent part of the mandated notarial archives, whose acts are transferred to the archives only 100 years after their redaction

Services

Image

The principal service rendered to the public is to ensure consultation of archival material. This activity takes place in the reading room, which is open from Monday to Thursday from 8.30 to 17.25 and Saturday morning from 8.30 to 13.30.

Activities

The activities of state archival institutions do not consist only in the storing of documents and making them available to users. To make the documentary material fully utilizable, it is necessary in fact not only to curate the conservation of the material, but to study, reorder and inventory it in a way suitable for then diffusing knowledge of the material for a public as large as possible.
